A day-long leadership institute for all leaders - past, present, and future - in UU congregations

The Clara Barton District is pleased to present a day-long leadership institute for all District congregations. Teams of congregational leaders are encouraged to attend to learn fundamental skills, best practices, and the spiritual dimensions of leading in congregations.

Tentative workshops are:

Covenantal Leadership and Right Relationships
From "Filling the Slots" to Spiritual Leadership Development
Faith Development for you, me, and everyone
Prophetic Finances
Knowledge Empowers: Who knows and how do they find out?
Hospitality: Polishing your Diamond in the Rough
Healthy Congregations/Congregational Systems

After the workshops, participants will have an opportunity to network with folks from similarly sized congregations. There will be time for congregational teams to work together to create a plan for integrating the new learning from this conference into their congregations.

This conference is made possible by CBD congregations’ generous support of Association Sunday.

Brochures and registration will be mailed to congregations in early June.

1-5 participants from one congregation = $85
6-10 participants from one congregation =$170
11-15 participants from one congregation =$255

2008 UU University and UUA General Assembly

UU University is a gathering just before General Assembly (GA) of congregational leaders of all kinds. If you want to increase your knowledge and ability to serve your congregation, UU University is for you!

UU University 2008 starts at about noon on June 24 and concludes by 12:30 p.m. on June 25. This year’s keynote speaker is Nick Carter, President of Andover Newton Theological School. Carter will teach strategies for leading theologically diverse congregations and how congregations might have a positive impact on a theologically diverse world. To register, or or more information:

General Assembly, a meeting of congregations, then begins on June 25 and runs through June 29 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The theme for 2008 is “Common Threads.” Watch the GA page of the UUA Web site for more details.

North East Leadership School (NELS)

North East Leadership School (NELS) announces its twenty-sixth year! This week-long training for lay leaders is an intensive program that is rooted in Unitarian Universalist history and principles. Theology and worship modules are combined with leadership skills development to provide participants with a new and stimulating way to incorporate UU theology, spirituality and leadership.

Are you a lay leader looking for ways to energize a board or committee? Have you recently accepted a leadership role in your congregation and are wondering how you’re going to manage? With participation in the NELS program you will return to your congregation with stronger group leadership skills, new ideas for your governing board and committees, and a greater integration of the UU principles into the day-to-day running of your congregation and your personal life.

This year’s program takes place in the beautiful setting of Craigville Conference Center on Cape Cod during the week of July 27, 2008 - August 2, 2008. Congregations must co-sponsor their participants. Check with your governing board to determine if there are funds available for lay leader training. Many UU districts offer scholarships, especially for congregations that have never sent members to NELS.
